Are You Buzzing Yet?
THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO AVOID CRITICISM: DO NOTHING, SAY NOTHING, AND BE NOTHING.
Are you buzzing yet?
I’ve noticed an increased phenomenon with people today using buzz words. You know the things like I need to “monetize” that or “the new normal” and I don’t know about you, but it makes me cringe and sometimes roll my eyes back. Often it brings a smile to my face while my subconscious is saying to me no no no don’t smile or laugh, don’t make like you think it’s funny. The reality is I don’t think it is funny, I think it is rather annoying!!
Maybe it is my age, but I don’t try to make people think that I am super intelligent because I don’t think I am, but I do hope that I possess a bit of common sense and I try to convey that in the easiest and most understandable conversation I can. Sometimes I just wish people would talk in everyday language, so we all know what the hell we are saying. I must admit, there is often the desire to ask people to explain what it is they have just said but I just let it go.
The last couple of years it seems that the sayings keep multiplying to that point that we have a new language emerging. When I was a kid, you were often told to just say what you wanted to say and stop beating around the bush. I knew what that meant. It was a more polite way of saying, if you can’t spit it out, shut the F… up.
So, what are some of these trendy little tid bits that I hear theses days?
The New Normal (☹, Synergy, Circle Back, Take This Offline, Pivot, Unprecedented, Think Outside the Box, Low-Hanging Fruit, Synergy, Customer journey, Deep dive, Impact, Core competency, Core Values, Visibility, Sustainability, Hyperlocal, Next generation, Holistic, Logistics, Alignment with our Values, Retargeting, Content is King, Big data, Incentivize, Racist, Drill down, Ecosystem, Bandwidth, Account-based anything, Third-Party Delivery, Viral, Strategy, Google Attributes, Greenwashing, Ethical Investments, Climate Change and the Big Daddy of them all “The Donut Theory”
A buddy of mine sent me what he called BADASS Quotes which made me smile because these, I can relate to:
IT IS BETTER TO BE A LONELY LION THAN A POPULAR SHEEP.
I DON’T WORRY ABOUT THOSE WHO TALK BEHIND MY BACK, THEY’RE BEHIND ME FOR A REASON.
THE QUESTION ISN’T WHO IS GOING TO LET ME: IT’S WHO IS GOING TO STOP ME.
THROW ME TO THE WOLVES AND I WILL RETURN LEADING THE PACK.
I WILL WIN. NOT IMMEDIATELY, BUT DEFINITELY.
IF LIFE SHUTS A DOOR, OPEN IT AGAIN. IT’S A DOOR. THAT’S HOW THEY WORK.
“TOO BUSY” IS A MYTH. PEOPLE MAKE TIME FOR WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO THEM.
THERE ARE 7 DAYS IN A WEEK. “SOMEDAY” IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
YOU ARE EITHER: ON MY SIDE, BY MY SIDE, OR IN MY WAY. CHOOSE WISELY.
LIVE AS IF YOU WERE TO DIE TOMORROW. LEARN AS IF YOU WERE TO LIVE FOREVER.
DISCONNECTING FROM CERTAIN PEOPLE CAN BE A BLESSING IN YOUR LIFE.
I WOULD RATHER DIE ON MY FEET THAN LIVE ON MY KNEES.
DO WHAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO AND YOU’LL GET WHAT THEY WILL NEVER HAVE.
SOME PEOPLE DREAM OF SUCCESS WHILE I WAKE UP AND WORK FOR IT.
Please let me know that I am not the only one in the universe that thinks about stupid stuff like this…please!! I was told once that it is the “crazy people” that rise to greatness and I like to think that craziness may be my gift, and if not, I hope that it is at least amusing to some or sparks some meaningful conversation.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend
