What’s with all the rubber on the road??

Life in the fast lane, surely make you lose your mind, Life in the fast lane

I’ve noticed a certain phenomenon lately in respect to our roads and it’s not the bike lanes or the revamping of perfectly functioning roads and turning them into weaving mazes with obstacles throughout in which you need to be extremely cautious in order to not hit something or scrape the crap out of your rims.

I would imagine that the persons that designed and approved these meandering mazes had a vision of creating some type of art while spending huge sums of tax dollars that the city and taxpayers do not have to further their own agendas.

Anyways, that’s not what this blog is about.

I have noticed, over the last year or so, rubber marks randomly on the roads all over. I mean I see them all over the place. As a lover of speed in my early days, I do get the adrenaline rush and I have pulled my fair share of wheelies on my lighter motorcycles and laid many patches of rubber just because, but these marks are different.

The long patches of rubber tend to be at or very near to busy intersections which to me would indicate someone slamming on the brakes at the last minute when they are clearly going far to fast or just plain not paying attention.

Over the last few years there has been a push to stop texting and distracted driving which doesn’t seem to have solved this problem. I know as a business guy I use my phone a lot but when I am in my vehicles, I put it in my pocket to remove that temptation to check or return a message. My collector car does not have Bluetooth so if I absolutely must make a call or send a message, I pull over in a safe spot and do so although from my observations that is NOT the norm.

As an example, I had to pick up some things at Super Store this week and when I was walking in, I noticed that the plants and palates that they were on were strewn all over the front entrance and people had bewildered looks on their faces. Then I saw employees on their walkie talkies while they scoured the parking lot. I asked one of them what had just happened, and the answer made me realize why people were shaking their heads. Someone had driven up the drive isle leading to the entrance while texting and slammed into the plants and stand sending people running for their lives and then after realizing what they had done, backed up and drove away. Luckily someone had caught the licence plate so hopefully they were caught.

The rubber that we are all seeing at intersections is most probably from the same thing!!!! And its not just cars as I am seeing tandem tracks which would indicate that the big rigs are doing the same thing. Is it that important that people feel the need to risk not only their own lives but everyone else around them to make sure they don’t miss that oh so not important message? It appears so. I have also seen a few tracks on the Parkway where vehicles have driven off on side of the highway, over the grass meridian and onto the other side of the highway and I can only imagine that it is the same stupidity!!!

I was listening to a segment on CKNW recently and they had a retired traffic cop on as a guest and his observations were very much what I observe. He pulled no punches labeling drivers on the road that text and drive in the left passing lane going the same speed as the people in the slow right lane so traffic backs up as no one can pass without dangerously trying to boot it and squeeze though traffic to make their way around them. I experience this everyday!!!  He labelled these people as Morons and Boneheads and I absolutely agree with him. I don’t think they are doing it intentionally; they are just Morons and Boneheads that don’t know how to drive and have no respect for others on the road around them. He mentioned that there is a law on the books that prohibits this but frankly I have never seen anyone pulled over for this….EVER!!!

Fact of the matter is that I am not trying to offend anyone, but if you are one of these offending drivers, you are a Moron and a Bonehead….Just saying.

Smarten up people. The left lane is for passing and the right lane is where you should be if you are not passing. Is that so difficult? Apparently, it is.

Ok that is one more thing off my chest and maybe your too.

Hope your enjoying the cooler weather and the little bit of rain that will clear the air and brighten the lawns and flowers.
